Leo Groeneveld (Lesli) jette l’éponge aux Pays-Bas
Response from Leo Groeneveld (Lesli)
The government wants to allocate 100 million euros to compensate entrepreneurs in the fireworks industry because of the fireworks ban.
“If this is done fairly, then I think we should be satisfied with it. But whether that 100 million is enough, I cannot judge,” says Leo Groeneveld, director of a company in Lichtenvoorde that imports fireworks.
“I still believe that it will probably not be effective at all. But it is a democratic decision, and we will have to accept that.”
According to Groeneveld, a tailored approach is needed. There are around ten fireworks importers in the Netherlands and about 850 retailers who sell fireworks to consumers during the December period. “For some of them, this accounts for five percent of their total turnover, while for others it may be as much as eighty percent.” For importers, factors such as staff numbers, buildings, and investments must be taken into account.
… In other words, Lesli is throwing in the towel and will not fight against the ban. Instead, they are happy with the 100 million and are going along with it because, according to them, it is a democratic decision!! Thanks Lesli for destroying the fireworks tradition?
